AQSG Traveling Quilt Exhibit – “It’s More Than Indigo”

May 8 - August 2

$8

The Kalona Quilt & Textile Museum is proud to display

“19th Century Blues – It’s More Than Indigo”  This is a traveling exhibit made by ladies that are members of AQSG American Quilt Study Group, who are from all over the United States and Canada.

Members select a historic quilt representing the theme and re-create a small study quilt for exhibition based on their historic quilt, and share what they have learned during the process.  The focus of the study is to incorporate a large percentage of blue colors from the 1800’s, which includes indigo, prussian blue, lancaster blue, cadet blue, or other recognizable nineteenth-century blues.

The exhibit consists of 25 small quilts, roughly 30 x 30 up to 42 x 42, which are based on antiques chosen by the Study participants. The project goal is for the makers to learn as much as possible about the study topic in general and their own study quilt in particular. This includes interacting with museum collections, learning about getting photo permissions, etc. It’s a really interesting undertaking and the participants really created some gorgeous work.

This display will be up from May 8th to August 2nd. It is $8 to tour our quilt displays.
